good times with resin

So this is all a learning experience, chances are once the resin sets the colors might go away because i didn't seal dried petals or tissue paper. i will find out today.

Resin

Last night I took my first of 4 resin casting classes. Before the class begins there is always that unsure moment. Am i going to like this? Why am I even here? money,,,blah blah. that silly little voice which i suspect is the same little voice that holds us back from many things. The voice that has told us we have failed before we even try. Needless to say, the class is amazing. Our first class we just went over some basic do's & don'ts. Mixed a little resin fun and poured into various molds. Now is the part, lots of wire for frames and me putting just about anything imaginable into resin.. and then we wait.. tic...tic...tic...

As I am no longer cooking with meat, i thought i would spend the next few weeks stepping up my culinary game. Last night Belle and I had a pants off dance off dinner party testing out some new recipes from Bon Appetit :nov 2009. Belle said she had some kale she needed to use so i chose 3 recipes that involved either kale, collard greens or both. We prepared a Rustic Bread Stuffing with Red mustard greens (we substituted collard greens) currents, and pine nuts (p.111). We also prepared a Smokey greens and beans side dish(p.62) and for the main event a Butternut Squash and Cheddar bread pudding (p.94) all were enjoyed. i liked the bread pudding the best.

Back It Up...

Yay!! A day off! A good cup of coffee, a beautiful fall day. Listening to Bon Iver and about to clean up the studio which has turned into a clothes pile. Lots to do before my trip to Ireland. I made these earring last week, no backs tho. I got about 3 pairs with no backs, maybe i will spend the day making earring backs. It's not the most fun ever but it needs to get done. Kind of like a day dedicated to jump rings.

I'm so glad to have pretty friend models. So far, all the earrings I have made for people I made just for them, thinking about their skin tones, style, hair. I think of a color or shade, then very organically, it all comes together. Much how cooks do their thing, i do mine.

for the anarchist crafter

yes Sunday,i mean you...
and now the ring has found it's home...

felt on burlap. store bought crocheted flower( i made this ring in summer before I started crocheting) skull bead.

How to get felt up.

So with felting.. basically you have a pile of wool, sheep, goat, rabbit:-) alpaca, monkey...what have you.. you add warm water and soap and then begin to manipulate it by tapping or hitting(pounding if you've had that kind of day) slowly the wool binds to itself and you have felt.. there are many gadgets.. wooden spoons, felting needles what ever. I was mainly interested in 3d shapes. nests, squares, balls. flowers...

Felt Magic

This summer (2010) I took a three day felt workshop. I was a little skeptical at first..what am i doing here? why do i sign up for this shit? Then... in the first half hour ...I got it... awesome... now i love felting on quiet mornings.. the felt has already turned into rings and pins. working on a necklace...
